Turkey Legs Rice Crispy Treats

Being in the kitchen -especially during the holidays, gets me all nostalgic and sentimental. My inner domestic diva comes out and I love sharing treats, making memories and providing opportunities for my children to be creative with me!

These turkey legs are a fun twist on a classic favorite!

Simple and special: two of my favorite things!

(makes 12)

•8 cups of Rice Krispies Cereal

•6 Pretzel Rods

•1 Bag White Candy Melts or white chocolate almond bark

•1 10 oz. bag  Mini Marshmallows (reserving 24)

•1/4 cup Butter

•Optional: 1 tsp extract*

*Play around with the extract flavors! There are so many variations and different taste creations. Vanilla, almond, butter, orange & coconut are some of our favorites.

Break your pretzel rods in half and melt your white chocolate according to the directions.

One at a time, or via kid-assembly-line, dip the end of the pretzel rods into the melted chocolate, covering just the end of the rod. Then press two mini marshmallows into the melted chocolate, forming the bottom of the leg bone.

Let the chocolate and marshmallows set on a nonstick baking mat until firm- about 5 minutes.

Once set, dip the pretzel and marshmallows back into the chocolate covering almost the entire rod.

Melt the remaining marshmallows and butter in the microwave for 1 minute. Add any extract(s) and stir until combined and smooth.

Add in your Rice Krispies cereal and mix until combined.

Patience is a virtue! Let the mixture cool for 5 min before you start forming the legs… otherwise you’ll have a irritatingly sticky mess on your hands, literally.

Grab a hand full of Rice cereal treat mix and shape it into a ball. You can use gloves, butter, or spray your hands with cooking spray to prevent additional sticking. Press the end of the pretzel into the ball and shape it to look like a turkey leg.

Place them onto wax paper on non-stick baking sheet and let them set for about 15 minutes.

These store nicely and are soft for 5-7days, allowing you to make them ahead of time!

We like to add on a cute @onecreativelife hand lettered gift tag and share them with all those we’re grateful for: Friends, neighbors, teachers and family. They also make a fun addition to your thanksgiving dinner spread.
